I’ve wrestled for about three years in high school, done Muay Thai for about six years and have won two titles, have had record of 9-2 in boxing. I used to train BJJ under few different coaches of about two years on and off. I’ve done some judo as well. I have had two MMA fights that I won.
I just enrolled in a MMA gym about 6 months ago. I was added to fighting team in the second month. I was supposed to fight in third month, but they hired a new BJJ coach whose have been around just shortly before I enrolled. The BJJ coach decided that one of his blue belt student should fight in that event. So my two MMA coaches and the BJJ coach decided to let us have a MMA spar to see who do better.
In that fight, the blue belt guy cannot land any strikes on me at all and every time he try, he receive heavy damages from striking. He was having tons of trouble to take me down and was able to take me down only twice in first round. Whenever we goes to the ground, he cannot get anything on me because I keep slip out of it and get back on my feet to make him play my game. By end of the third round, he was unable to walk so they stopped the fight. I was supposed to fight this fight in three weeks. Next day… Guess what happened? One of my MMA coach came to me and say that I will not be fighting and the guy who I beaten up badly will be fighting. I was so upset about this. Then when this guy fight, he loses early in the first round by knock out. BJJ coach’s excuse? I beat him up so bad that he cannot recover enough in time.
I thought this was over. But they never gave me any fight. So I decided to get one fight for myself so I can show the gym who I am. I told them about it and my MMA coach arranged it and everything. I have only a month before the fight happen.
Yesterday my BJJ coach talked my MMA coach into have me spar with a brown belt guy to determine who should fight in this event. I was furious about this.
This guy was way better than other one but I still manage to throw and sweep him with my judo, took him down a couple time, and he was not able to keep me on ground eventhough he took me down often. One point I almost got a triangle or gogoplata on him. He was unable to come close to tap me out and stuff. By end of the 3rd round, he was totally gassed and cannot stand up for good 10 mins while I was ready for another round.
Today I got news that I won’t be fighting again! And this brown belt will be fighting MY fight that I work so hard to get to prove my ability!
The MMA coach told me I have to talk to BJJ coach. So I went up to him and ask what’s up with all this. The BJJ coach says my BJJ game isn’t good and most of my BJJ is outdated and that I was bigger than both guy (totally untrue, I have to go up in weight for both fight while they stay at their normal weight which was considerable bigger than me but planned on drop) And that if I fight the way I did, I’d get tapped out and that I know their game too well for it to be a fair fight and that if I fight BJJ guys from other gym, I’d lose.
I was shocked and upset! What can I do about this? I cannot switch MMA gym since this is only one in my city and I cannot take up BJJ class. I am already overwhelm with work, Muay Thai, boxing, and MMA training and everything plus my budget is stretching very thin.
Do this BJJ coach have any credible in what he say? Or is he just BSing? Why would he be so biased? What is his problem?
He basically say I need to have blue belt in BJJ. That would take about 9 months to a year.
Gee… they say to spar as if it was a fight and the other guy was giving everything they have both time. Am I suppose to go easy so they can beat me up and get the fight?

The reason I destroy the first guy so bad is because my striking was most effective against him. So no point in me try to grapple where I’m not as good. Yet he keep coming for me. So it isnt like he was going easy on me and I just decide to destroy him for my enteraiment.
